The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Gist Organizer
Turn GitHub Gists into a powerful, project-based file explorer with a real code editor.
GitHub Gists are fantastic for snippets, configs, notes, and starter templates, until your collection grows. Scanning through a flat, reverse-chronological list to find one specific script shouldn't give you anxiety.
Gist Organizer solves this by transforming gist.github.com from a basic list into an organized, IDE-like workspace.
HOW IT WORKS
Grouping gists into a project becomes effortless. Just give them the same gist description (the short label you set when creating a gist), and the extension automatically does the heavy lifting by merging them into a single "Project" tile. Clicking that tile opens a sleek side-panel file explorer containing all of that project's files.
KEY FEATURES
🗂️ Organization & File Management
Project Tiles: Replaces the native flat list with a clean, grid-based project view.
Side-Panel Explorer: Navigate your project's files instantly when you open a tile.
Drag-and-Drop: Drop a folder onto the page to create a new project, or drop files into an open project to add them instantly.
Inline File Management: Add, rename, and delete files without leaving the page. Right-click for quick context actions.
Archive & Star: Keep your workspace clean by starring favorites and archiving old projects (adding archiving functionality that native Gists lack).
💻 Enhanced Editor Experience
Real Code Editor: Powered by CodeMirror with syntax highlighting, line numbers, and bracket matching.
Dark Theme: Because darkness + code = <3.
Inline Save: Hit Ctrl+S to save instantly using GitHub's native form mechanism.
Markdown Support: Renders Markdown beautifully with a seamless one-click "Edit" toggle.
⚡ Speed & Workflow
Instant Switching: Background file preloading means zero wait time when clicking between files.
Advanced Copying: Copy file links four different ways (viewer page, raw content, latest version, or pinned to a specific revision).
Smart Filtering: Search by name, toggle visibility, and filter by starred or archived status. Includes a per-project file-type filter for mixed-extension projects.
Privacy-Aware: Treats secret and public gists as first-class. Secret gists stay completely unlisted, respecting your native visibility settings.
Quick Navigation: Press Esc to instantly back out of any view to your main project list.
Customizable Defaults: Toolbar popup lets you set default sort order, default visibility, and a one-click kill switch to temporarily revert to GitHub's native view.
Fully Responsive: Looks and works great on everything from cramped laptop screens to ultrawide monitors.
WHY YOU MIGHT WANT IT
The native Gist UI is fine for one-off snippets. But once you start using gists as a long-term scratchpad, it falls short due to a lack of folder structure, bulk actions, and workspace management. You get the gist. ;)
Gist Organizer adds the missing management features and editing power that make gists practical at scale, giving you the perks of a repository without the overhead of one.
PRIVACY
This extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. It runs entirely locally between your browser and gist.github.com. Your settings (sort order, visibility, filter state) live strictly in Chrome's local storage. See the privacy policy for full details.
