The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Ghostwriter for Anki — Flashcards, faster
Ghostwriter helps you quickly write Anki cards from the things you read online.
Highlight a passage and open Ghostwriter with ⌥⇧F. Start typing the first few words of the front of your card, and then call the AI ghostwriter with ⌘⇧X to complete the card based on the source material. The finished card gets sent to Anki with ⌘⇧A, and is automatically tagged, contains a link to the source page, and includes AI-generated "context".
This is deliberately not an app for automatically generating flashcards. Ghostwriter will not turn a web page into a pile of cards for you—and for good reason: an LLM can't read your mind. So if you don't know exactly what it is that you want to remember, an LLM usually won't be able to figure that out for you! You should decide what's worth remembering and have an idea of how you want to phrase it, the AI is there to help your write it faster, to give feedback, and to populate the metadata so you don't have to think about it.
100 AI suggestions are included to begin with — after that you can add your own API key, use a local model, or keep writing cards manually. Manual writing works fully offline. The only time anything leaves your machine is when you choose to use a (non-local) LLM. The LLM receives the text you are asking it to help you with.
Requirements: desktop Anki running with the AnkiConnect add-on (ID 2055492159).
Best for students, language learners, and any frequent Anki user.
Good flashcards come from good judgement.
