The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.

About Ghostly

Ghostly is a peer-to-peer messenger that runs inside your browser. It has no server and no account: your identity is a cryptographic key generated on your device, and contacts reach you through a public distributed hash table rather than through a company's backend. After installing, open Ghostly from the toolbar and you are given a key to share. Anyone who has it can start an encrypted conversation with you. Messages are encrypted end to end with 256-bit NaCl secretbox and travel directly between the two browsers over WebRTC. You can also place voice and video calls, share your screen, and send a contact files of up to 100 MiB. Conversations are ephemeral by design. A message left for an offline contact is held encrypted on the distributed hash table and expires from it after about five hours. Everything else exists only while you are online: close the browser and the session is gone. Nothing is kept on a server, because there is no server to keep it on. Ghostly can also share a web app running on your own machine. If you have something on localhost, you can let a chosen contact open it in their browser for as long as you are online. This is what the debugger permission is for: the extension attaches to that single loopback tab in order to answer its requests with content relayed from your contact. It does not read the pages you browse and requests no access to public websites. A small ecash wallet is included, so a payment can be sent inside a conversation the same way a message is. Ghostly asks for no email address, no phone number and no password, and collects no analytics. It is open source under the MIT license.
