The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Ferna Tabs
Ferna Tabs shows your open tabs exactly where your mouse pointer is, so you never have to travel to the tab bar.
Press Alt+Shift+L and the list appears under the pointer. Switch to a tab, close it, pin it, jump to a bookmark, or type an address or a search, then carry on with what you were doing.
OPENING THE LIST
- Keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+L by default) - the list appears at the mouse pointer
- Right-click a page and choose "Ferna Tabs Here"
- The Ferna Tabs toolbar button
WORKING WITH TABS
- Click a tab to switch to it
- Close tabs without visiting them: the x button, a middle-click, or the Delete key
- The list stays open while you close tabs, so you can clear several in one go
- Pin or unpin any tab with its pin button. Pinned tabs are protected from being closed from the list
- Type to filter your tabs by title or address
- Show the tabs of the current window, or of every window, grouped
TYPING AN ADDRESS OR A SEARCH
- Type an address such as example.org and press Enter to open it
- Type anything else and, when no tab matches, press Enter to search with your default search engine
- Enter opens a new tab, Shift+Enter uses the current tab. You can swap these in the settings
BOOKMARKS AND NEW TABS
- The star button (or the Tab key) shows your bookmarks: browse folders, or type to search all of them
- Open a bookmark in a new tab, in the current tab, or in a background tab with a middle-click
- The + button opens a new tab
A LIST THAT STAYS THE SIZE YOU CHOSE
- The popup always has the width and height you set, on every website. A page's zoom level, and zoom that a site applies to itself, are both cancelled out
- Set the font size between 10 and 24 px
- Make rows bigger or smaller, from 80% to 160%, with the A / A buttons at the bottom of the list
- Light and dark themes follow your system
KEYBOARD
Up/Down select - Enter switches or opens - Delete closes a tab - Tab shows bookmarks - Esc closes the list
PRIVACY
Ferna Tabs collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. There is no tracking, no analytics, no accounts and no remotely loaded code. Your settings are stored by the browser, and the only network use is loading the small icon of each open tab, usually straight from the browser's cache.
GOOD TO KNOW
- Chrome does not allow extensions to draw on its own pages (New Tab, chrome:// pages, the Web Store and the PDF viewer). On those pages the list opens as a small window in the middle of the browser window instead
- To change the shortcut, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts and find Ferna Tabs. The button in the extension's Options page opens that page for you
- The search row says "Search the web" rather than naming your engine, because Chrome does not tell extensions which search engine is the default. The search itself uses your default engine
Ferna Tabs is free, open to inspect, and made by TGI Fernando.
