About FeatSmith — Feature Writing Co-Pilot
Engineers have had linters for years: write code that breaks the team's conventions and a tool flags it
before a human ever reviews it. The people who write features, stories and specs get… a style guide
nobody reads, and a reviewer who sends the ticket back.
FeatSmith is that missing tool. It reads your team's writing rules once, then drafts rule-compliant
fields on the issue you're working on — and checks the ones you've already written, flagging exactly
which rule each one breaks. Right in a side panel next to your tracker. No copy-paste, no separate app.
Built for product managers, product owners, and business analysts — the people who turn ideas into
features, user stories, and specs to a standard — plus the program managers, engineering leads, and
scrum masters who work alongside them.
HOW IT WORKS
Capture your rules once. Upload your style or compliance guide (PDF, Word, Markdown, spreadsheet, or
slides) and FeatSmith extracts it into a reusable rule profile — tone, terminology, formatting,
required sections, and compliance constraints. Prefer to start fast? Clone a built-in template or
write a few rules by hand.
Open an issue. FeatSmith detects the issue you're viewing on a supported tracker and opens a side
panel right next to it.
Draft or check. Draft a Title, Description, Release Notes, Benefit Hypothesis, and Acceptance
Criteria (in your required format, e.g. Gherkin) with one click — or point it at a ticket you've
already written and get an instant compliance check that lists every rule it breaks, in plain
language.
Review and apply. Compare variants per field, see inline compliance flags, then accept and apply the
result straight back to the issue with correct formatting — one field, or all of them at once.
WHY TEAMS USE IT
Two jobs, one panel — it writes new fields AND checks existing ones against your rules, so quality is
enforced whether the ticket was AI-drafted or typed by hand.
Your rules, not generic AI — unlike a general chatbot, FeatSmith enforces your specific terminology,
structure, and compliance requirements, and tells you the moment a draft violates one.
Free, instant compliance checks — the rule check runs in your browser. It's unlimited, works offline,
and your ticket content never leaves your device.
Consistency at scale — every writer's output matches the house style automatically, so newer team
members write like your best ones and reviews get shorter.
Speed during crunch — draft a dozen well-formed tickets in the time it used to take to write one.
Works where you work — a side panel on top of your tracker, not another tab to switch to.
SUPPORTED TRACKERS
FeatSmith works with the issue tracker your team already uses — popular ones like Jira, Linear, and
GitHub, plus several others — and you can connect more than one at a time, with OAuth or an API token.
Your tracker credentials stay on your device; the extension talks to each tracker directly, so your
tokens never reach our servers.
ACCOUNT & PLANS
Sign-in is required (email one-time code or Google). Compliance checks that run locally are unlimited on
every plan. The Free tier includes 10 AI generations (drafting and AI deep-checks); Pro adds a large
monthly allowance (fair use) and lets you invite teammates.
PRIVACY
Your issue-tracker tokens live only on your device, and the local compliance check never sends your
ticket content anywhere. When you use AI drafting, FeatSmith processes that content to provide the
service and improve quality; our privacy policy explains exactly what is stored, for how long, and how
to request deletion.
WHO IT'S FOR
Product managers — drafting and standardizing features, epics, and user stories.
Product owners — turning backlog items into clear, compliant, ready-to-build tickets.
Business analysts — writing precise requirements, acceptance criteria, and specs.
Also useful for program/project managers, engineering leads, scrum masters, and technical writers.
If you write acceptance criteria, benefit hypotheses, release notes, or feature descriptions to a house
style, FeatSmith drafts them and checks them for you — on-brand and rule-compliant, every time.
