The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Etymon
Trace a word without losing your place.
Double-click a word on a webpage and Etymon shows a compact origin card beside your selection. Open the full story in Chrome's side panel to explore roots, language changes, cognates, related words, and a visual derivation graph.
You can also select a word and use the toolbar button, context menu, or Command/Ctrl+Shift+E. Manual mode works without broad website access. Instant double-click lookup is optional and Chrome asks before granting it.
Privacy by design:
• Etymon sends only the word you select or enter.
• It does not send the page URL, title, domain, surrounding sentence, DOM content, referrer, or browsing history.
• Content-free diagnostics are off by default.
• Saving a word is explicit.
Etymon supports light and dark themes, larger text, keyboard navigation, reduced motion, forced colors, Unicode scripts, and right-to-left content.
Etymology can involve uncertainty. Etymon shows source and limitation information in the full result when available.
