The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About EchoX - Video, Podcast & Web Transcripts, AI Summaries
Streamline your research with EchoX: turn a video, a podcast episode, a talk, a post or any article into a transcript, a summary, and a conversation – right in your browser, with your own AI keys.
EchoX is the ultimate intelligence companion for researchers, marketers, and smart people. Extract the spoken text of whatever you are watching or listening to in seconds, pull the readable article out of any page, upload your own local files, generate insightful summaries, and ask specific questions about the content – using an API key of your own, billed by your provider and by nobody else. Fast, cost-effective, and privacy-focused. Available in English & German.
🚀 Key Features:
1️⃣ Universal Extraction & File Uploads
• Video Captions: On YouTube, EchoX reads the caption track of the video you are watching and turns it into clean, readable text – no copying, no retyping, no third-party service in between. Vimeo works the same way, subtitle tracks included.
• Talks: Open a TED talk and get the complete transcript, not just the part the player keeps on screen.
• Podcasts & Lyrics: On Spotify, EchoX opens the transcript panel of an episode for you and reads it out in full – and on a song page, it takes the lyrics.
• Posts & Threads: On X, it takes the post itself, the whole thread, and the spoken transcript of a video inside a post.
• Any Web Page: Nothing to extract? EchoX falls back to reader mode and pulls the article text out of the page you are on.
• Local File Support: Bring your own documents into the mix! Upload .txt or .pdf files to summarize them alongside everything else.
• Instant Export: Copy or download the full transcript as a clean text file (.txt) with a single click.
• MetaData & Timestamps: Optionally include title, author or channel name, publication date, description, and exact timestamps in your text. In your generated summaries, these timestamps automatically turn into clickable deep links, jumping straight to the exact moment in the source for perfect referencing. Where a source exposes no time marks, EchoX tells you instead of guessing.
2️⃣ AI-Powered Summarization & Chat (BYOK)
• Tailored Summaries: Generate deep insights exactly how you need them. The AI creates structured documents based on the exact instructions of your selected prompt.
• Iterative Refinement & Versioning: Not completely satisfied? Instruct the AI to refine its previous output (e.g., 'Make it shorter' or 'Focus more on aspect X'). EchoX stores your session's generation history in an elegant accordion view, so you can seamlessly iterate without ever losing previous versions.
• Interactive Q&A: Have a quick follow-up question? Use the integrated chat to converse directly with the transcript or document and get instant, context-aware answers.
• Bring Your Own Key: You choose who does the thinking. Already have an account with OpenAI? Paste that key and you are done. Prefer the models Google offers? Those work too. The same goes for Anthropic. You pay only for what you use, and you pay it directly to the provider you picked – there is no EchoX account, no server of ours in between, and no subscription.
• Model Flexibility: Switch between cost-efficient models for quick overviews or high-intelligence models for deep analysis – and add your own model IDs as new ones are released.
• Smart Chunking: Automatically handles long texts by splitting them into logical chunks. A smart alert warns you if token limits are exceeded during batch processing, allowing you to seamlessly increase the limit on the fly.
• Rich Export: Copy your generated insights, download them as Markdown (.md) or as a plain text file (.txt), or export them perfectly formatted to MS Word.
3️⃣ Customizable System Prompts
• Built-In Templates: Don't settle for generic outputs. Use our carefully crafted defaults like "Deep Dive Summary", "Pre-Watch Check", "Step-by-Step Guide", "Fact Check" or "Simple Summary" – or write a one-off instruction on the spot with "Spontaneous Summary".
• Create Your Own: Define custom prompts with dynamic placeholders like {{title}}, {{author}}, {{date}}, and {{url}} to match your specific workflow.
• Import/Export: Share your best prompt engineering setups with colleagues via simple text file (.txt) import/export.
4️⃣ Batch Analysis & Flexible Workspace
• Queue Workflow: Process several sources in a row – a lecture, two episodes, a thread and a PDF all land in the same list.
• Combined Mode: Merge the insights of multiple sources into one single summary document – perfect for researching a topic across several of them at once.
• Dark Mode: Toggle the beautiful dark theme for late-night research or to perfectly match your OS setup.
• Full-Screen Tab Mode: Work quickly in the compact extension popup, or expand EchoX into a dedicated browser tab for a distraction-free reading and chatting experience.
• Side Panel Mode: Prefer to keep EchoX open while you keep browsing? Switch the display to Chrome's side panel. (This mode asks for page-reading access when you turn it on, because the panel has to know which page you are currently on. The default popup mode never asks.)
• Built-In Manual: A complete handbook ships inside the extension – offline, in English and German, one click from the toolbar.
🔒 Privacy First: Your data stays yours.
• Client-Side Only: EchoX operates locally in your browser. Uploaded PDFs are parsed securely on your device using Mozilla's open-source PDF.js—never sent to external servers.
• No Middleman: Your API keys are strictly stored in your device's secure local storage (chrome.storage.local) and go straight to the provider you picked, for processing and nothing else.
• No Tracking: We do not track your browsing history, analyze your content consumption, or send transcripts to our servers.
