About Double Subtitles
Watch Netflix and YouTube with subtitles in two languages at once — perfect for learning a language or watching together with someone who speaks another one.
Double Subtitles draws two subtitle lines over the video: your main language on top and a second language (smaller, in yellow) right below it. Both are perfectly in sync with the picture.
On YouTube you can also use YouTube's automatic translation: even if a video only has English subtitles, you can watch it in English + Ukrainian, Spanish, German or almost any other language.
Missed a line? Pause the video and the last 5 subtitles appear on the left, with their translations. Want to look up a word or save a phrase? Every line has a copy button.
FEATURES
• Works on Netflix and YouTube.
• Two languages at once — for example English + Ukrainian, Spanish + English, Japanese + English.
• Choose any subtitle language the video offers, for both lines.
• YouTube: auto-translated subtitles in almost any language, for the main or the second line.
• Hide / show subtitles with one key (C by default).
• Turn the second language on / off with one key (T by default).
• Pause history: when you pause, the last 5 subtitles are shown on the left side of the video, together with the second language — optionally even when the subtitles are hidden.
• Copy button next to every subtitle line — paste it into a dictionary, a translator or your vocabulary list.
• Set your own hotkeys, including combinations with Ctrl, Alt or Shift.
• Adjust the text size.
• Delay setting to fix subtitles that are out of sync.
• Works in fullscreen.
• Your choice is remembered for the next episodes and videos.
• Interface in English, Ukrainian, Polish, Romanian and German.
HOW TO USE
1. Start playing a video on Netflix or YouTube.
2. Click the Double Subtitles icon in the toolbar (pin it via the puzzle-piece menu).
3. Choose the mode:
• The site's own subtitles — Netflix or YouTube draws the subtitles; the hotkey and the pause history still work.
• One language — the extension draws subtitles in the chosen language.
• Two languages — main language on top, second language below.
4. Pick the main and second language. "On this video" lists the languages the current video really has; on YouTube, "Auto-translated (YouTube)" lists the languages YouTube can translate into.
5. Turn "Show last 5 subtitles on pause", "Also when subtitles are hidden with the hotkey" and "Copy button next to each line" on or off as you like.
To load a language, the extension may briefly switch the player to that subtitle track and then switch back to your own choice. This happens once per language per video. The same happens for the pause history if the site's own subtitles are turned off: the extension then loads your main language.
PRIVACY
• No account, no sign-up, no tracking, no analytics.
• Nothing is sent to us or to any third party. Subtitles come only from the site you are watching: on Netflix from what the player already downloads, on YouTube from YouTube's own subtitle service, the same way the YouTube player requests them. Everything stays in your browser.
• The clipboard is only written when you click a copy button, and never read.
• The only permission is "storage", used to remember your settings.
• Runs only on netflix.com and youtube.com.
NOTES
• Netflix requires a subscription.
• On YouTube, C and T replace YouTube's own shortcuts for captions and theater mode. You can choose other keys in the extension.
• Image-based subtitles (used for some languages on Netflix) are not supported.
• If Netflix or YouTube changes its player, an update of the extension may be needed.
