The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.

About DisplayDial Dark

Most of the web is still bright white, and most of it is read at night. DisplayDial gives every site a dark mode, and gives your whole browser an evening: warmth and dim that rise gradually as bedtime approaches, the way a sunset does, instead of snapping on at a set hour. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT • Two dials, not one. One re-colours the page. The other warms and dims it. They work independently, so a site whose design you actually like can stay itself and still stop burning your eyes at midnight. • Smart mode that measures instead of guessing. DisplayDial reads a page's real background brightness, remembers the verdict for that site, and applies it before the page paints. Sites that already ship a dark theme are left alone, and later visits never flash. • A ramp, not a switch. Set your bedtime and DisplayDial eases warmth and dim upward across your wind-down. Anchor it to your actual local sunset if you prefer: sunset and sunrise are worked out on your own computer from the date and your computer's time zone (or a city or US ZIP you type), so no location permission is asked for and nothing is sent anywhere. • Five modes. Day, Reading, Evening, Night and Cinema, one click each. • Per-site control. A "Changes apply to: Everywhere / This site only" switch decides where a change is written, so one awkward site never forces you to compromise everywhere else. • Reading adjustments. Text size, line spacing and column width, off by default. • PDFs, if you want them. Chrome draws PDFs in a viewer no extension can reach inside, so darkening one inverts it whole and photographs come out as negatives. Great on a page of text, poor on a scanned magazine, so it is a switch rather than an assumption. • Keyboard shortcuts for dark mode, per-site off, and cycling modes. PRIVACY No account. No ads. No analytics. No remote code. By default DisplayDial makes no network requests at all. It counts which of its own controls you use so features can be kept or cut on evidence rather than guesswork. Those counts come from a fixed internal list of control names, never a web address or anything you read, they are shown to you in Settings, and they never leave your browser. Sync is the one exception and it is off unless you turn it on. With it on, your settings and your site list travel between your Chromes through your Google account, the same way Chrome carries bookmarks. The usage counts and the learned site measurements never sync. Turning sync off clears the synced copy. Full detail: https://displaydial.com/privacy/ WHY IT ASKS TO RUN ON EVERY SITE A dark-mode extension has to run on the page you are reading. DisplayDial uses that access for one thing: adding a stylesheet so the page can be darkened, warmed or dimmed. It does not read page content and does not send anything from a page anywhere. You can switch it off for any individual site from the popup. THERE IS ALSO A MAC APP This extension dims the page. DisplayDial for Mac drives real hardware brightness on every display, dims below the floor macOS allows, and runs the same evening curve across every app rather than just your browser. The extension is complete on its own and nothing here is withheld to sell it. https://displaydial.com
