Detractless - New Tab & Focus

[What it is] Detractless is a focused new tab extension designed to reduce distraction and make browsing feel calmer and more intentional. Instead of overwhelming you with feeds, noise, and clutter, Detractless replaces your new tab with a clean, organized space. It offers optional, highly customizable focus safeguards that introduce healthy friction to prevent impulsive browsing behaviors. [What it does] • Minimalist Dashboard: A clean, customizable new tab page featuring multiple pages (tabs) to organize your bookmark groups seamlessly. • Optional Search Delay Intervention: Reduces mindless searching by adding a customizable pause (e.g., 15s to 5m) before revealing search results. Works on Google, YouTube, Reddit, and any other platform you choose. • Optional Tab Limiter: Prevents cognitive overload by limiting how many tabs you can have open. Choose to automatically block new tabs or close a random tab when you hit your limit. • Detractless Element Remover: A built-in, point-and-click tool to hide distracting webpage elements (like recommendation feeds, shorts, or sidebars) globally or on specific URLs. • Spotlight Search: Use the main search bar to search the web, or type ./ to instantly search through your locally saved bookmarks. • Custom Themes: Match your aesthetic. Choose from Light, Dark, System, or completely customize your own color palette. [Why install it] Most productivity tools try to motivate you to focus using rigid blocks, timers, or guilt. Detractless takes a different approach: it removes unnecessary noise so focus becomes the default. Everything runs locally, nothing is tracked, and all features are entirely user-controlled. Detractless doesn’t tell you what to do — it simply creates an environment that makes intentional browsing easier. Privacy First: Detractless operates 100% offline. No analytics, no tracking, and no accounts. You can easily export and import all of your bookmarks, custom engines, and settings as a JSON file to sync across devices.
