About Colour Picker & Palette Kit by Escher Group
Pick any colour on any page, and turn it into a palette you can actually use.
PICK A COLOUR
Click the icon and a circle follows your cursor, magnifying the pixels underneath so you can see exactly what you are picking. Click to take a colour. Press Esc to stop. There is also "Pick from anywhere on screen", which uses Chrome's own eyedropper to reach other apps and windows.
A NAME, AND THE NUMBERS
Every pick comes with a plain name like "Bronze" or "Navy", a short description, and its codes: HEX, RGB, HSL and HSB, each with a copy button. Your recent picks are kept so you can come back to them.
FOUR COLOURS WITH JOBS
Build a palette from any colour. Main, Accent, Dark and Light: your brand colour, your buttons and links, your text, your backgrounds. Lock the colours you already have, from one to all four, and the kit works out the rest. Six moods: Classic, Bold, Soft, Earthy, Quiet for understated brands, and Dark for brands that live on a dark background. Shuffle until it feels right.
IT CHECKS THAT EVERYTHING READS
Text on backgrounds, buttons on pages: every pair that will meet is checked for readability, and the colours the kit chose are nudged until they pass. Your own colours are never changed for you. Where one of yours will not read or will not stand out, you get a close colour that fixes it, and the reason, to use or ignore.
SEE IT BEFORE YOU USE IT
A small mock web page and a business card are painted with your palette as you work, so you can judge it as a whole, not as six squares.
KEEP IT, COPY IT, PRINT IT
Name and save palettes. Copy them as a plain list or as CSS variables. Print a one page brand card, or save it as a PDF, with the four colours, their codes, supporting shades, the mock page and what reads on what. Hand it to a printer, a sign writer or a designer.
YOUR PICKS STAY IN YOUR BROWSER
No accounts, no servers, no tracking. It only looks at a page when you click its icon there, and what it sees never leaves your computer. Your picks and palettes are kept in your browser and nowhere else.
