The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About ClipDesk
ClipDesk is a Markdown web clipper for Chrome. Clip any web page or PDF to clean, readable Markdown in one click — with the title, source URL, and date automatically written to the frontmatter. Everything saves to a private local library on your device. No account required. No cloud. No lock-in.
If you used MarkDownload or Omnivore and are looking for a replacement, ClipDesk picks up where they left off.
Clip to Markdown — one click, clean output:
Capture selected text or full pages from any web page as clean Markdown
Strip away ads, cookie notices, nav bars, and clutter automatically
Clip PDFs the same way — text-readable PDFs are parsed locally, no upload
Title, source URL, and date are auto-added as frontmatter on every clip
Export as Obsidian-ready Markdown, Notion-ready copy, JSON, or plain text
Bulk export your entire library at once
Local-first by design:
Every clip, note, tag, and export lives in your browser's local storage on your device. Your library works fully offline. Nothing leaves your machine unless you explicitly turn on sync. No account is required to clip, save, search, or export — ever.
Works with Obsidian, Notion, Logseq, and any Markdown-based vault:
ClipDesk outputs portable, durable Markdown files. No proprietary format. No vendor dependency. Drop exports directly into your Obsidian vault, paste into Notion, or open in any text editor. Your clips are plain .md files you control — searchable, linkable, and yours forever.
PDF support:
ClipDesk imports text from PDF files locally using a sandboxed parser built on packaged PDF.js. No file is uploaded to any server. Scanned or image-only PDFs will show a clear fallback rather than a broken result.
Optional cloud sync (Pro plan):
Sign in with Google to unlock multi-device sync, continuity across browsers, and billing management. Sync is opt-in and off by default. Existing local clips are never uploaded automatically when you sign in. Upgrade and billing open Stripe-hosted pages — no payment form is ever embedded in the extension.
Privacy, plainly stated:
No account required for local use
No remote AI processing
No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry
Clip content is never sent to any server unless you explicitly enable cloud sync on a paid plan
No end-to-end encryption claim — sync is standard TLS in transit
Organize and search your research:
Add notes, tags, and favorites to any saved clip
Search and filter by keyword, domain, tag, or date
Save custom filter views for recurring research topics
Organize clips into collections
ClipDesk is the web clipper built for people who think in Markdown.
