About CiteReady
CiteReady measures how ready your website is to be understood, retrieved and cited by AI search and answer engines.
Click the icon on any page for three scores, the evidence behind each one, and a list of fixes ranked by impact. Then scan the pages it links to and get the same picture for the whole site.
THREE SCORES, NOT ONE
• Technical SEO: can crawlers access and interpret the page correctly?
• AI Accessibility: can AI crawlers retrieve the content and metadata?
• Citation Readiness: how clearly structured, attributable, answerable and verifiable is the content?
Plus an overall estimate, so one number never hides a different problem.
WHAT IT LOOKS AT
• Content and answer readiness: a direct answer near the top, a definition of the topic, question-and-answer patterns in any markup, lists and tables, sections, substance
• AI accessibility: noindex and nosnippet rules, robots.txt for AI crawlers, HTTP status and redirects, how much content exists in the raw HTML, login and paywall barriers
• Structured data: JSON-LD present, valid, of a type that fits the content, with its recommended properties and entity links
• Entity clarity: the main topic named in the title and H1, stated early and consistently, the language declared correctly, the site identified, references linked
• Citations and evidence: links to outside sources, specific figures, and whether those figures are attributed
• Author and E-E-A-T: a named author, a visible byline, a bio, a named publisher
• Technical SEO: title, description, canonical, headings, landmarks, internal links, image alt text, Open Graph, viewport, HTTPS, sitemap
• Freshness: published and updated dates, how recent, and whether readers can see them
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
• Evidence for every finding: the value detected, not just a verdict
• Partial credit: a page that does half of something scores half of it
• Content-type aware: a poem, a recipe, a product page and an article are not judged by the same checklist, and checks that do not apply are left out of the score
• Already strong: what the page does well, next to what to fix
• What AI can see: a compact machine-readable summary of the page — topic, one-sentence answer, entities, author, dates, key claims, sources, structured-data types, language
• Model projection: what the score would be after the biggest fixes
• Reports as Markdown, CSV, or a designed A4 PDF to send to a client or colleague
• Toolbar badge, keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+C), light and dark themes
SITE SCAN
• Audits up to 50 pages of the site you are on, starting with the pages linked from the current one
• Site-wide scores, the content types found, and how many pages are strong
• The opportunities that cost the most across the site, with typical evidence and how many pages each affects
• A compact card per page with its own scores, strengths and top fixes
• AI crawler access: whether the site's robots.txt lets the main AI and search crawlers in, plus the sitemap
• Export as PDF, Markdown or CSV
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Runs entirely in your browser. No server, no account, no analytics.
• Every request CiteReady makes goes to the site being audited, and nowhere else: an audit reads the page plus that site's robots.txt, sitemap and the page's own raw HTML, always without your cookies, and only when you start it.
• Reads a page only when you click the icon.
• Two permissions: activeTab and scripting.
A NOTE ON METHOD
Scores are estimates from CiteReady's own audit model: how well a page exposes the signals the audit looks for. They are not a ranking factor of any search or AI system and do not guarantee inclusion or citation in an AI answer. Crawler behaviour, content loaded by scripts, external systems and changes to AI models can all affect real results. In a site scan, linked pages are read as raw HTML without running scripts, which is how most AI crawlers see them.
Works on regular web pages. Browser pages, extension stores and PDFs can't be scanned.
