About CIFER for WhatsApp Web
Add CIFER protection to your one-to-one WhatsApp Web conversations.
Use the CIFER side panel or switch to a full-page IRC view with a compact chat list, search and one conversation showing ordinary and protected text. Protected messages are marked in green with a lock.
Write a private message with CIFER protection enabled. The extension encrypts it before placing it in WhatsApp. WhatsApp carries encoded text and an Open in CIFER link; the intended, confirmed CIFER recipient can unlock it. In IRC view, you can also choose an ordinary WhatsApp reply.
• Keep your existing WhatsApp Web session.
• Read and write protected text inside an isolated extension view.
• Confirm a new recipient’s CIFER identity before granting access; remembered confirmations are checked again if identity keys change.
• Recover encrypted drafts and recently loaded messages from a bounded browser cache.
• Follow sending, delivery and read status when WhatsApp exposes it.
• Use English or French.
Getting started
1. Sign in to CIFER Hub and prepare your free account.
2. Open WhatsApp Web in Chrome and open the CIFER extension.
3. Compare the code and approve in your unlocked Hub tab. Keep that tab open.
4. Open a one-to-one conversation and write your protected message, or choose IRC view.
Privacy
Ordinary conversations stay in WhatsApp. The extension does not upload an ordinary-chat archive to CIFER. Protected text is encrypted in your browser. CIFER’s encryption provider processes key descriptors; it does not receive the message body to decrypt. Loaded text, drafts and view state may be cached locally as ciphertext for up to seven days, under an owner-scoped random key wrapped through unlocked Hub. Decrypted copies are cleared from the view on lock, hide or idle. Account/signing keys stay in Hub. Cache is a convenience, not a full offline archive or a bypass of message access. The optional independent-session mode requires a local passphrase.
Free alpha for desktop Chrome and one-to-one text. Both people need a CIFER account to exchange protected messages. Groups, attachments and calls are not supported. WhatsApp layout changes can temporarily affect compatibility.
CIFER is independent and is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
