About Chess Helper: Notation, Analysis, Time Alerts
Chess Helper brings standard algebraic chess notation (SAN) to life directly on your board, no more switching back and forth between moves and notation. As you play on Chess.com or Lichess.org, this extension automatically:
1) Detects each move in real time
2) Highlights the destination square with a subtle overlay grid
3) Displays the SAN (e.g. Nf3, exd5, O-O) on that square, then fades out
Handles castling, pawn promotions, captures and disambiguations seamlessly.
New in v1.7:
Check your opponent – One click opens a free statistical report for the player you are facing, with their username and the time control (blitz or rapid) already selected.
Clearer controls – The pause button now says exactly what it pauses, and every setting applies the moment you change it.
Also included:
Audio Time Alerts – Spoken countdown warnings at customizable thresholds (30s, 10s, 5s, 3s, 2s, 1s) so you never lose on time.
Free Lichess Analysis – One-click export of your Chess.com games to Lichess for free computer analysis, with automatic board orientation.
Everything runs locally in your browser. The extension collects no personal data and transmits nothing on its own; the opponent check simply opens a link, carrying your opponent's public username, when you click it.
How it works:
1) Install and enable the extension
2) Navigate to any live game on Chess.com or Lichess.org
When you (or your opponent) move a piece, watch the board highlight the landing square and show its notation, instant feedback that helps you learn SAN while you play. Open the extension popup to pause, change highlight duration, enable audio alerts, analyze on Lichess, or check your opponent.
Who it's for:
Beginners mastering algebraic notation
Players who want audio time warnings without premium subscriptions
Anyone who wants free game analysis on Lichess
Coaches & students reinforcing move-to-notation connections
Install Chess Helper today and level up your chess experience!
