About Checkpoint — Watch Parties for Streaming
Checkpoint turns the streaming sites you already pay for into a room you can share.
Start a party on checkpoint.watch, open Netflix, YouTube, Twitch or any other supported
service, and press play. Checkpoint opens beside the player: chat, who's in the room, and
the controls for the party. Nothing moves to a different site and nothing is re-streamed —
you're watching on the service's own page, signed into your own account, exactly as you
would be otherwise.
EVERYONE STAYS ON THE SAME MOMENT
One person hosts. When the host pauses, skips back, or moves to something else, everyone
else's player follows automatically. No counting down together, no "are you at 12:04?".
Guests just watch — nothing you do to your own player is pushed onto anybody else.
BUILT FOR THE AD BREAK
Ads don't line up across accounts, so Checkpoint handles it. When the host hits an ad, the
room is told and the party waits. When a guest hits one, the host can see it and decide
whether to hold. Nobody's ads are ever skipped for them.
CHAT THAT STAYS OUT OF THE WAY
The panel docks to the side and gives the video the rest of the window. One click stows it
and hands the width back.
PARTY GAMES, ONLY IF YOUR ROOM WANTS THEM
Rooms can add drinking-game rules, or run sober. Checkpoint is for adults 21 and over —
please drink responsibly.
FREE AND PRO
Anyone can start a free room of up to 3 people. Larger rooms and some services are part of
Checkpoint Pro, which is optional and managed on checkpoint.watch.
YOU STILL NEED YOUR OWN SUBSCRIPTION
Checkpoint doesn't host, stream, rebroadcast or share video, and it can't get you access to
anything you don't already pay for. Everyone in a room watches on their own account.
WHAT IT READS, PLAINLY
While you're in a room, on supported services only, it reads what's playing on the page —
which video, playing or paused, and how far in. That's what keeps a room together. It also
carries your existing Checkpoint sign-in into the panel, and sends what you type in the
panel's search box to Google's public suggestion service to fill the dropdown. Outside a
room it does nothing at all: no panel, no requests, nothing added to the page. It never
reads your password, viewing history, watchlist or billing details on a streaming service,
and it doesn't read cookies.
