About ChatterBox: Classroom Noise Meter
ChatterBox is a free noise meter for your classroom. It sits on top of whatever web page you are already using, so your students can see how loud the room is without you saying a word.
HOW IT LOOKS
Pick the style that fits your class:
- Bars: a bright column of lights that rise from green to red.
- Subtle: a thin, quiet strip for classes that get distracted easily.
- Bubbles: calm blue and purple bubbles that drift slowly when the room is quiet, then grow, speed up and turn red when it gets too loud.
- Dial: a big, draggable emoji face, gauge or stoplight that you can make small, large or huge.
Put it on the left, right, top or bottom of the screen. The web page moves over so the meter never covers your work.
MADE FOR REAL CLASSROOMS
- One-tap presets for Silent work, Partner talk, Group work and Free time.
- Calibrate to your room in a few seconds, or use the three-step setup to teach it what quiet, a good working volume and too loud sound like.
- Quiet streak timer with a goal, a "best today" score and a celebration when the class reaches it.
- Save settings for each class and switch between them.
- Optional red screen tint when it is too loud, or Gentle mode with no tint and no shaking.
- See-through mode, a color-blind friendly palette, and large dial sizes for the back row.
- Available in English and Spanish, with a simple settings view and an advanced view.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
ChatterBox uses the microphone only to measure how loud the room is. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere. The sound is measured on your computer and thrown away right away. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking.
GETTING STARTED
Click the ChatterBox icon in your toolbar (or press Alt+Shift+Q) to show or hide the meter. A short welcome page walks you through language, school level and microphone setup the first time.
