The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Captions Capture for Google Meet
Captions Capture for Google Meet turns Google Meet's live captions into a plain .txt file you can keep, search, or hand to an AI assistant for a summary.
Turn on captions in Meet and a small bar appears at the bottom of the meeting. It tells you what the extension is doing and how much it has captured, and gives you two buttons: copy everything to the clipboard, or save it as a .txt file.
WHAT YOU GET
One readable file:
Meeting: Weekly sync
Date: 2026-09-11
Start: 09:21
Duration: 32 min
Speakers: Anna Kowalska, Marek Nowak
File owner: Anna Kowalska
Meeting code: abc-defg-hij
[09:21:47] Anna Kowalska: good morning everyone
[09:22:03] Marek Nowak: let's start with the roadmap
Captions and chat messages are merged into one chronological list, so a link someone pasted in chat sits exactly where it was written.
WHAT IT DOES
- Captures captions in whatever language Meet produces them - the text is never translated or edited
- Captures the Meet chat panel, and also the embedded Google Chat space used by meetings linked to a Chat conversation
- Follows the corrections Meet makes to a caption while it is still on screen, so you get the final wording rather than the first guess
- Starts capturing chat only once captions are running, so a meeting you never recorded leaves nothing behind
- Saves straight into a folder you pick, instead of the browser's downloads folder - and, if you want, into a subfolder named after the day
- The bar can be dragged anywhere and closed if it is in your way
PRIVACY
The extension requests no Chrome permissions and contains no network code at all. No servers, no analytics, no accounts, no third parties, no remote code. What it reads stays in the meeting tab and is gone when you close it. A file appears on your disk only when you press the save button.
If you pick a folder to save into, your browser asks you to confirm access to it, and the extension remembers your choice - the folder and nothing else. It can read and write inside that one folder, nowhere else on your disk.
BEFORE YOU USE IT
A transcript contains other people's words. Tell the other participants that you are capturing the meeting, and check that you are allowed to - the rules differ between countries and between employers.
LIMITS
- Captions have to be turned on in Meet; the extension cannot turn them on for you
- The quality of the text is the quality of Google's speech recognition
- Chat messages carry Meet's own timestamps, which are minute-precise
