The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About BrightByte DevKit
BrightByte DevKit puts 7 developer tools — and 20+ chainable operations inside the flagship Data Transformer alone — behind a single toolbar click. No more bookmarking a different website for every JSON formatter, Base64 encoder, or password generator you need. Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing you paste in is ever sent anywhere.
WHY DEVKIT
• One plugin instead of a dozen bookmarked sites, half of which show ads next to a textarea
• 100% local — every transform runs in your browser; nothing is ever sent to a server
• No accounts, no tracking, no analytics
• Free, with no upsell tier
• Built for real developer workflows, not just a single conversion: chain steps together, verify JWT signatures (not just decode them), catch JSON duplicate-key bugs that JSON.parse silently swallows
## 1.5.0
### Added — Data Transformer
- **Format converters.** A new "Converters" palette category with ten steps - YAML, CSV, XML, TOML and Properties/.env → JSON, and JSON → each of them. JSON is the hub, so any two formats chain through it (e.g. YAML → JSON → CSV).
- **Conversion warnings.** Whatever a conversion has to drop or change - comments, nulls TOML can't hold, integers too big to keep exact, nested data flattened into dotted columns, CSV cells that a spreadsheet would run as formulas - is listed on an amber line under the output, per step, and in the popout window.

## 1.4.2
- **Dark mode: Fixed hover-revealed action buttons (for example, an email inbox's archive/delete/snooze icons) flickering rapidly while the mouse is over them.** The extension was checking the page's layout at the exact moment the page toggled its own hover state, which some sites read as the mouse leaving and re-entering dozens of times a second. Those checks now wait for the page to settle first.
- **Dark mode: Fixed small single-color toolbar icons drawn as background images showing up dark-on-dark and barely readable.** Icon-sized images now switch to dark along with the rest of the page instead of being preserved in their original colors like a photo would be.
- **Dark mode: Fixed embedded readers and viewers (for example, an online manga/comic reader) showing a blank white sheet where the content should be.** A transparent, never-drawn-on click-capture layer stretched over the content was being painted opaque; it's now left transparent so the pages beneath show through.
- **Dark mode: Fixed photos inside pop-up modal dialogs (for example, a profile-photo viewer) rendering as a photo negative.** Modal dialogs are drawn above the page's dark-mode layer, so the photo inside no longer receives a second, uncancelled color inversion.
## 1.4.1
- **Dark mode: Fixed maps — including tiles, roads, street labels, and overlay layers like boundary lines and contour/river lines — rendering as an unreadable black void or being hidden behind a blank white sheet.**
- **Dark mode: Fixed full-page visual effect overlays turning entire pages solid black.**
- **Dark mode: Fixed frosted-glass (blurred) menus and panels staying light instead of switching to dark.**
- **Dark mode: Fixed light-colored dropdown panels nested inside an already-dark navigation bar not switching to dark.**
- **Dark mode: Fixed dark-styled cards and widgets looking washed out instead of keeping their own dark design.**
- **Dark mode: Fixed pages that only declare dark-mode support through a page meta tag being mistakenly re-inverted, making text invisible.**
- **Dark mode: Fixed embedded document and photo viewers with a transparent annotation layer hiding the real content or showing it with inverted colors.**
Release: 1.4.0
-**Dark mode: Fixed video rendering as a photo negative in fullscreen.**
Release: 1.3.2
- **Fixed dropping out of dark mode on in-app navigation.**
Release: 1.3.1
- **Dark mode now applies inside same-origin iframes.**
Release: 1.3.0
### Added — Dark Mode for Websites
- **Force dark mode, per-site or everywhere.** A new "Dark Mode" section in the popup adds two toggles: force it for the current site only, or force it on all sites. Applied via `chrome.scripting.registerContentScripts`, so it persists across reloads and future visits to that site without re-toggling.
- Sites that already support dark mode (declare `color-scheme: dark` or already render a dark background) are detected and skipped, so their own colors are never touched.
- **No new install-time permissions.** `optional_host_permissions` is declared but grants nothing until you actually toggle a specific site on; toggling it off revokes that site's permission again.
Release: 1.2.0
### Added — Data Transformer
- **Save/load recipes.** A "Save As..." button plus a "Saved recipes" dropdown with separate **Load** and **Delete** buttons, backed by `chrome.storage.local`. The dropdown is a plain picker, not a live "currently loaded" indicator: picking a name only enables Load/Delete, and Load resets the dropdown back to its placeholder immediately afterward — it used to auto-load on selection and stay selected, which looked like the editor still matched a saved recipe even after you went on to edit steps.
- **Regex Capture step and cross-step variables.** A new "Regex Capture" operation matches a pattern and stores its backreferences — numbered groups (`$1`, `$2`, ...) and any named `(?<name>...)` groups, from a configurable match index — as pipeline-wide variables, passing the text through unchanged so it still feeds the next step. Any later step's text field can reference a captured variable as `{{name}}` or `{{1}}`; unresolved placeholders pass through untouched rather than erroring. A "Captured variables" readout under the Recipe toolbar shows what's currently available.
- **Recipe tabs.** A tab strip above the palette/recipe/input/output panels lets you work on several independent recipes in one window at once. Each tab keeps its own recipe and input; `+` opens a new blank tab, double-click a tab's name to rename it, and closing is blocked on…
