The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Bonsai — JSON Tree Viewer
Bonsai turns raw JSON responses into a fast, read-only, editor-style viewer: the experience of opening the file in a desktop code editor, directly in the tab.
📂 LOCAL FILES SETUP
Want to open local JSON files? Chrome hides file:// access behind one quick manual step for every extension, not just this one:
1. After installing, open chrome://extensions
2. Find Bonsai and click Details
3. Toggle on "Allow access to file URLs".
Note: Regular http(s) pages work instantly out of the box — no setup needed! 🚀
✨ FEATURES
• ⚡ Smart auto-detect: automatically formats JSON pages (correct Content-Type + JSON-looking body), with a one-click "View raw document" escape hatch and a manual "Format this page" override from the toolbar popup.
• 🚀 High performance: handles huge documents, smoothly rendering up to tens of MBs
• 📄 Multi-format support: JSON, JSONC, and JSON Lines / NDJSON (multi-record streams fold into an array view with a record-count badge).
• 🌳 Structure panel: a virtualized tree of the document with type icons, counts, copy-value / copy-path (JSONPath, dot, bracket) on every row, and reveal-in-structure from any editor line. Can be easily toggled off if you want a distraction-free view.
• ✍️ Editor niceties: code folding by level, breadcrumb path bar, hover row actions, precise error markers with clickable line:column jump links for malformed documents.
• 🛠️ Error-tolerant parser: handles malformed JSON gracefully. Broken JSON still renders, marking the exact line and column of the first error.
• 🔍 Full-document search: case / whole-word / regex, match count, auto-unfolds folded matches
• ⌨️ Keyboard-first navigation:
• arrow keys: move between rows, expand, or collapse nodes naturally
• Cmd/Ctrl + Enter: reveal the cursor's node in the structure tree
• Cmd/Ctrl + F: search the full document
• Cmd/Ctrl + A, then Cmd/Ctrl + C: select and copy full document
• Cmd/Ctrl + G, or F3: step through search matches
• 🎨 Customizable UI: dark & light themes with live switching, bundled fonts, and settings sync across your devices.
