About Blurly — Screen-Share Privacy for WhatsApp Web
One notification. One client name. One private message.
That is all it takes for a routine screen share to become an awkward explanation.
Blurly puts a practical privacy screen over WhatsApp Web before that happens. Use Everyday Blur when people can see your monitor. Switch to Presenting Mode when you are sharing or recording your screen and nothing should be revealed—even by accident.
TWO PRIVACY MODES. ONE INSTANT SWITCH.
EVERYDAY BLUR
• Blurs the chat list, open conversation and WhatsApp drawers.
• Hover over the area you need; move away and it becomes private again.
• Helps stop casual reading in offices, cafés, coworking spaces and shared rooms.
PRESENTING MODE
• Covers WhatsApp Web behind an opaque privacy curtain.
• Hovering cannot reveal messages, names or previews.
• Ideal for calls, recordings, webinars, tutorials and live demonstrations.
PROTECTION THAT DOES NOT STOP AT THE OBVIOUS PANELS
Private information can appear in more places than the main chat window. Blurly also watches for transient message overlays and popups that can expose a name or preview at the worst possible moment.
If WhatsApp Web is still loading—or its interface changes and Blurly cannot find the expected panels—Blurly fails closed and covers the page instead of silently leaving it readable.
FAST ENOUGH FOR THE “I AM SHARING THE WRONG SCREEN” MOMENT
• Ctrl+Shift+Y — toggle Everyday Blur
• Ctrl+Shift+U — toggle Presenting Mode
• A small on-page indicator confirms which privacy mode is active.
• Your selected state remains in place across tabs and browser restarts.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Runs only on web.whatsapp.com.
• No accounts and no login.
• No analytics, tracking or crash reporting.
• No message, contact or media data is collected or transmitted.
• No network requests and no remote code.
• Only simple on/off settings are kept in local browser storage.
OPTIONAL BLURLY PRO
Need to keep working inside one conversation during a client call?
• Spotlight Mode keeps the current chat readable while the chat list, drawers and other conversations stay hidden.
• Alias Mode replaces names with stable session-only labels such as “Client A” and “Client B” while blurring avatars.
• Real names are never written to storage by the alias feature.
• Ctrl+Shift+G toggles Spotlight; Ctrl+Shift+K toggles aliases.
Blurly Pro is a separate installation available for ₹199 as a one-time purchase. No subscription and no account. The free edition remains fully useful on its own.
Install Blurly before the next unexpected notification—or the next time the wrong window is visible on a call.
Blurly provides visual privacy against shoulder-surfing and accidental screen-share exposure. It is not a replacement for device access controls or encryption.
Blurly is an independent extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc.
