About BiblioPass Access
BiblioPass Access gives students, faculty, and researchers at a subscribing academic or
research institution seamless access to the journals, databases, and eResources their
library already pays for — on campus or off, with no VPN and no re-entering credentials.
HOW IT WORKS
Once your institution's library has set up BiblioPass and you sign in through your
institution's own login page, this extension recognizes when you land on a licensed
publisher's website (e.g. a journal database your library subscribes to) and
automatically routes that request through your institution's authenticated proxy —
exactly as if you were sitting on campus. Every other website you visit is completely
unaffected: only your institution's own list of subscribed publisher domains is ever
routed through the proxy, and personal browsing, email, banking, and social media
always go direct.
WHAT YOU'LL SEE
- A small badge appears on licensed publisher pages confirming "Access provided by
[Your Institution]" — so you always know when you're using your institution's
subscription.
- The toolbar icon shows at a glance whether your current page is being routed through
your institution's proxy.
- A one-click diagnostics panel if access to a resource isn't working, so you (or your
library's helpdesk) can see exactly what's failing.
WHO THIS IS FOR
This extension only does something when paired with a BiblioPass deployment run by
your own library or institution. If your institution hasn't set up BiblioPass, this
extension stays completely inactive — it doesn't do anything until you sign in through
your institution's own BiblioPass login page.
PRIVACY
BiblioPass Access only ever inspects traffic to and from the specific publisher domains
your institution has licensed — a list controlled entirely by your institution's
librarians, never by this extension. It cannot see, read, or affect any other website
you browse. See the full privacy policy for details on what limited usage data (which
licensed resource was accessed, not its content) is reported back to your institution
for their own subscription-usage statistics — the same kind of access log a campus
library network already keeps today.
Built for libraries and research institutes running their own BiblioPass platform
deployment.
