About Better Salesforce Formula Editor
Better Salesforce Formula Editor replaces the plain text box Salesforce gives you for formulas with a full code editor, right inside the Setup page.
FEATURES
- A real code editor: built on Monaco, the editor that powers Visual Studio Code, with syntax highlighting, bracket matching, line numbers, and multi-cursor editing.
- Autocomplete: suggestions for your record's fields and for 80+ formula functions and operators, each with a description of what it does.
- Live syntax checking: your formula is checked with Salesforce's own Check Syntax as you type, and the result appears below the editor. No more clicking "Check Syntax" after every change.
- Diff Mode: see exactly what you changed compared with the formula as it was when you opened the page.
- Field explorer: browse every field on the record, follow lookups into related objects, and look up context variables like $User.
- Built-in reference: every formula operator and function with its usage, one click away.
- Switch back anytime: one click returns you to Salesforce's standard editor, and that choice is remembered for the rest of the week.
WHERE IT WORKS
- Formula fields, both new and existing
- Validation rules
- Setup in Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic
HOW TO USE
1. Open a formula field or validation rule in Setup.
2. Click the "Better Formula" tab above the formula box.
3. Edit your formula, then click Salesforce's Save button as usual. Your changes go into Salesforce's own formula field, so nothing is saved until you save.
PRIVACY
- Everything runs in your browser. Your formulas and field names never leave your Salesforce org: no analytics, no tracking, no outside servers.
- Asks for no browser permissions beyond running on Salesforce pages.
