About BackTracking

BackTracking is a lightweight, privacy-focused browser extension that strips invasive tracking identifiers from URLs and blocks third-party telemetry endpoints at the network layer. Built for Manifest V3, it keeps links clean, prevents cross-site tracking, and eliminates link bloat with zero performance overhead. KEY FEATURES • Universal URL Sanitization: Automatically strips cross-site marketing parameters and click IDs (utm_*, fbclid, gclid, msclkid, ttclid, twclid) before navigation occurs. • Native Network Blocking: Uses Chromium's declarative engine to block connections to known ad networks, session replay tools, and tracking beacons before requests fire. • Platform-Specific Deep Cleaning: Purges proprietary telemetry bloat across major platforms, including Amazon search metadata (qid, dib, ref_), Reddit event tokens (correlation_id, target_user, $deep_link), and internal social tracking wrappers. • "Copy Clean Link" Utility: Adds a right-click context menu option to sanitize links directly to your clipboard before sharing them in chats, emails, or forums. • Single-Page App (SPA) Support: Silently updates the address bar URL using history.replaceState on modern web applications without triggering page reloads. • Tab Badge Counter: Displays a real-time counter showing how many tracking parameters were intercepted and removed on the current tab. • Simple Domain Whitelisting: Exempt trusted websites or toggle protection on and off directly from the popup interface. PRIVACY & RELIABILITY • Zero Data Collection: Operates entirely client-side in ephemeral browser memory. Visited URLs, page contents, and browsing histories are never recorded, stored, or transmitted to any external server. • 100% Packaged Local Logic: Executes entirely via locally packaged code with zero remotely hosted scripts, external CDNs, or dynamic code evaluation. • Breakage-Free Architecture: Built with a strict allowlist protecting OAuth authentication keys (client_id, state, redirect_uri) and vital search filters so logins and interactive web apps function without interruption.
