Remember a single password to generate repeatable, secure passwords for multiple sites. Chrome implementation of Nic Wollf’s SHA1 master password hashing tool.

More about this extension

Basic copy/paste of Nic Wolff’s excellent SHA1 password generator ( http://angel.net/~nic/passwd.sha1.1a.html ) for Chrome.

All password hashing code taken directly from link above.

Extension adds a ‘save’ button to store the master password (optionally), and will try to pre-fill the site name with the current site’s root domain name.
Last three characters of password will always be “1a!” for sites that require a combination of letters, numbers and/or punctuation.

Notes:
Using the tab key to navigate between fields is not currently supported, see http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=22654

    Is there a way to remove special characters? Like “/”. Most pages don’t like that in a password.

    I want to retain compatibility with the original source at angel.net, but that’s something you can change yourself!

    Locate the extension’s folder:
    Vista/win7 :
    C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\bhhinkiejikaoegbkfghkchkfekbkbic\

    WinXP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\bhhinkiejikaoegbkfghkchkfekbkbic\

    Edit popup.html, and find the line that reads
    var tab = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+/";
    Here, you can change the “/” character to one of your choosing. Example:
    var tab = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+(";

    And, while you’re at it, remove the update url from manifest.json in the same folder to keep updates from overwriting your change.

    BTW, VERY smart to only use the domain. Most extensions (and sites) use sub.domain, painful if e.g. mail.google.com decides to move to email.google.com lol. Again, exxxxxxcellent extension, sir!

    Two suggestions:

    * increase the size of the fields. Imagine as site name: “ohmygodwhatalongaddress.com” ;)
    * Options to change the colors or maybe you can use “neutral colors”, #000000 for font and #ffffff for bg?

    A great tool, but the generated passwords are too short for my liking.
