As the official Google Chrome extensions gallery is open I’ll STOP updating this website.
Please click here to download Chromed Bird.

I’d like to say thanks to all you guys from chromeextensions.org for all your hard work. But now with the official gallery available there seem to be no point in keep updating multiple websites.

Finally! I love to see a twitter extension for chrome! Ok, the gui is a little bit buggy but I think he will kill ‘em all. :) Happy coding and thanks for this extension.

  2. joestrong says:

Very useful extension, however I’m looking forward to an updated version with a nicer layout and more features. Is it possible to view more than the first 5 tweets in the widget? That would be useful.
1 annoying thing is you cannot press tab when you enter your username to move to the password box when you login. Also you cannot press enter to login. These things will make first impressions a lot better.

  3. Helito says:

Great extension, but I have a big problem: http://twitpic.com/o4fwi

  4. cezarsa says:

@ joestrong Hi and thank you for your feedback. There’ll be a new version soon featuring things like user notifying on new tweets, and tracking read / unread tweets.

About your questions, yes you can dig through older tweets using the pagination icons on the upper left corner (A little << image.)

The TAB key issue is not an extension issue, it's actually a Chromium bug, as you can see here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=22654
I'm sure Chromium guys are working to get it right as soon as possible.

  5. Michael says:

Can you add a remember me option? Also are there any plans to add tabs so look at @’s and DM’s? It’s an awesome extension with a lot of potential.

  6. Chobblr says:

Hello, downloaded ur plug-in and its good, i just wanna say could ya add blues to it, and some CSS3 and webkit CSS, apart from that its good, also, im the Dev of the Facebook Re-Design , id of seen if my plugin can interact the look, but i know it cant so im not gonna try…

  7. Chobblr says:

Update: ok, few things ya need to do… add a max-height so its only the height of the Chrome Window, 2nd try to use the some nice rounded corners and blues as sad before…but for now i cant use it

  8. Rob says:

Any chance on getting this working in Linux?

  9. cezarsa says:

Hey guys, thank you for supporting this extension. If everything is working fine you should have been automatically updated to version 0.3 featuring lots of good stuff like user remembering, notifying on new tweets and read / unread tracking.

@Helito This problem has been fixed in the new version, give it a try.

@Michael The remember me option has been added in 0.3, about tabs for @’s and DM’s they are planned for the next versions.

@Chobblr Yeah, it definitely needs a better UI, I’m open to suggestions ;)

@Rob I tested it, and it seems like Browser Actions aren’t fully supported by Chromium on Linux yet. However, besides the popup not showing, everything seems to be working fine, try installing it and pointing your browser to chrome-extension://encaiiljifbdbjlphpgpiimidegddhic/popup.html

  10. Michael says:

Awesome update! I am down with either a thin scroll ball for history (maybe 100 tweets max) or maybe making the current history icons a little bigger or more visible. I can’t wait for the next update your doing great work.

  11. Michael says:

I meant thin scroll bar sorry for the typo.

  12. Chobblr says:

    @cezarsa
i dont know if you’d trust me enough but if you could email me the unpacked extension i could try a few looks quicker , i wont release this as my own because that just not me.

  13. cezarsa says:

@Chobblr There’s no need for secrecy. :) Chromed Bird is an open source project, you can download all the source code on the project page: http://github.com/cezarsa/chromed_bird
You can also submit patches / issues on the same page. Thanks for being willing to help.

@Michael I’m considering having a scroll bar, I’ll experiment with it on the next few days.

  14. Chobblr says:

Thank you, i will edit that and post you my edited version :)

  15. Anders says:

Thanks a lot for this. It may be a stupid question but how can I move the popup window? I’d like it to pop up in the bottom right corner.

  16. smore says:

Hi cezarsa and thanks for the awesome extension; you made me forget my regular standalone twitter client!
I have one request/suggestion, not sure if it can be implemented with ease: how about the integration of some url-shortener service? It could be a separate field much like the ‘compose tweet’ one, the user would paste the link to be shortened, it would be sent to such a service (of your choice), then the short url automatically pasted to the ‘tweet now’. I know it’s so much easier to say than do, the only reason i dare to suggest because it’s the only feature i miss…

Anyhow, keep up the good work, the extension is already kick-ass as it is.

  17. Michael says:

Pretty interesting – very specialized, but interesting :-)

  18. I’ve been using Chrome Bird on Chrome for Linux (the development version, i.e. 4.0.254.1) for some days and it’s working fine. The only thing I find annoying is the fact that everytime I’m composing a tweet and click on another Chrome tab or on somewhere else, the compose windown is closed and all its content is lost.

I’m OK with the compose window being closed, but I would like to have it not lost its content. Currently, I’m copying the content from the compose window to a temporary place, doing my research and merging text from two or more places again into the compose window in order not to lose the original content whenever I need to research something before finishing my tweet.

  19. Michael says:

Awesome update. Doesn’t look like the tabs work.

  20. Michael says:

Oops never mind just hovered over them with the mouse and saw the coming soon lol. Sorry about that. This thing kicks ass. Your doing great work man.

  21. martynparker says:

Fabulous extension….. latest update 0.4 is really showing promise! Wouldn’t use it as main Twitter client but is fantastic for checking tweets without leaving Chrome.

Feature requests: Sound notification of DM or Mention, Inline or Hover display of images in tweets.

Keep up the great work. A must install!

  22. Jeremy says:

    This extension is great.

On the next version could you add the ability to lookup a friend by typing their twitter ID?

    Thanks in advance!

  23. cezarsa says:

@smore There’s a huge To Do list, and definitely url-shortener integration is in this list. I’m also thinking about integrating some picture service. You can expect these features in a near future.

@Michael @martynparker I’ll finish the support for DM and Mentions timelines probably this weekend. I haven’t thought about adding sound notifications but it sounds like a good idea. Of course it should be possible to disable sounds. Displaying images on hovering is also a nice idea.

  24. chromey says:

Love the extension much better than switching from window to window. The only thing idea I have well there r a few is 2 add profile support, mutli account support , list support, search and instead of saying via API it should give the extension name.

  25. perzo says:

    The new UI is awesome!

  26. Marek L. says:

Very nice extension indeed. I would like to see a bubble with new tweet, not only icon color change.

  27. Michael says:

Hi there – new to this Chrome extensions malarky (saw the Mashable article the other day) but just wanted to say how impressed I am with ChExs generally and this Twitter one in particular. Good work!

Looking forward to the tabs being enabled and any other future developments. I agree that a url shortner would be a nice touch, although I’m well into the habit of using the bit.ly sidebar, so it’s no biggie if it doesn’t happen.

One possible issue (and it might be a one off) – I opened Chromed Bird and it worked fine, then a minimised it and opened Twitter’s own site. Since then Chromed Bird opens but doesn’t display any tweets, just the loading bar on the right. Will try a restart of Chrome but wanted to let you know just in case. [EDIT - before I posted I figured it'd probably be more helpful to just restart Chrome and try it. Seems to work fine this time, so probably nothing to worry about. Have left the original point though in case it's useful]

    Thanks again! :-)

  28. RachelR says:

Was able to download but when I try to login I get: “Unexpected error “error” during communication.” Any ideas on how to fix this??

  29. polyphony says:

This extension just needs url shortening to be perfect for me. Great job!

  30. How can I insert my Twitter credentials? Options are disabled and when I click on the icon, nothing happens… Chrome for Mac v4.0.249.0. Thanks!

  31. Raul says:

Good extension! But, not registered in Twitter Application http://twitter.com/apps/new :(

  32. Armstrong says:

I miss a more friendly and nice icon =P and a number notificacion of unread tweets, like on gmail checker.

  33. peter says:

nice extensions.Could you support Third party api in options.html ?

  34. Looks like it (0.5) does not work on Mac Google Chrome!

  35. Hello,

Chrome Brid was automatically updated to version 0.5 today for me (using Chrome for Linux version 4.0.249.11). After the update, whenever I click on the Chrome Bird icon, it will redirect me to a Twitter page where I should allow Chrome Bird access to my Twitter account.

I already did it and the “Twitter allow” page told me I should go back to Chrome Bird and insert a Twitter API key. However, whenever I try to click on Chrome Bird in order to do so I’m redirected to Twitter’s “allow access to your account” page again.

How could I insert the Twitter API key into Chrome Bird ?

  36. xc8 says:

nice work!! the 0.5 is amazing! THANX!

  37. iquanyin says:

i have some other extensions working but i can’t get this one to do anything. where can i get help on getting it working? i’ve looked into finder and i can’t even find it (unless it’s inexplicably named “songbird” or “bluebird” or something in that json section…

  38. I “fixed”my problem with Chrome Bird 0.5. The problem was that the “Twitter API allow” URL would use HTTP (and not HTTPS) by default, then I changed it to use HTTPS instead. That’s why it didn’t worked.

Once I changed it back to using pure HTTP, it worked. I would have liked to have the option to use HTTPS for this step, as this is where I have to provide my Twitter password account, though.

  39. Adam says:

Sorry andrĂ© how did you fix this? I can get the PIN number from twitter, but it asks me to add it to chromed bird… but nothing pops up when I click the icon. So confused.

  40. cezarsa says:

@AndrĂ© Thank you for reporting, this was the problem indeed. I just updated Chromed Bird version to 0.51 with a fix allowing you to use either HTTP or HTTPS. It also contains fixes to some bugs when Twitter API isn’t responding.

@iquanyin Could you try again with version 0.51 now available here? You can report any bugs / suggestions to the project page in http://github.com/cezarsa/chromed_bird/issues

  41. nXqd says:

Thanks for the update . DM and @myname are really cool :x

  42. rmean says:

it doesn’t work for me with oauth :( the authenticate page says “allowing chromed bird..” but nothing happens afterwards!

  43. gustavo says:

i would really like to write my tweet after REPLY is clicked instead of clicking it and then set the cursor to the text box,,, and also be able to insert mentions anywhere in the tweet not just at the begining of it!!

PD hope you can understand this xD .. sorry if my english is poor!!

  44. andrei1015 says:

    pupup resizing OK! CONGRATS!

  45. Alex says:

For me it don’t Work. Everytime i click on the button then i come to the page where i can allow Cromed Bird but then i come to this page who say me “Please wait, authorizing Chromed Bird…” but nothing happens and the extension dont work

  46. jazz7 says:

great update man..now its working for me..thnx

  47. Alex says:

Now i use the 0.4 Version of your Extension and it Works :) . I use SwR Iron 4 Beta maybe thats the problem, i dont know

  48. Mike says:

Hi, does not work on Mac Google Chrome, how to solve this issue? thanks

  49. rmean says:

well alex, i’,m using iron too, so it really seems to be a browser-specific problem. real pity, hope one of the next versions will fix it, i like that extension :)

  50. kamol says:

I’m also using Iron 4, not working. Anyone can tell me where to get version 0.4 of chromed bird? download here only downloads version 0.2.
