For those of you who are Facebook Mania out there…

I have created a Google Chrome Extension called “Facebook Enhancer” which include the following features:

  1. Bigger Profile Pictures and Photos Popup
    Popups a bigger picture when you hovering the mouse over thumbnails of profile pictures or photos, even if the person is not your friend. It then disappear when you move the mouse off the small picture. You can also hold Ctrl, Shift or Alt when putting the mouse over a picture to prevent the popup from appearing, or hold them when taking the mouse off a picture to keep the popup open.

  2. Fixed Top Menu Bar
    Keep the top menu bar on the screen, even after scrolling down.

  3. Fixed Left Filter List
    Keep the left filter list visible even after scrolling down.

  4. Bottom Menu Bar Transparency
    Makes the bottom menu bar 10% transparent.

  5. Highlights Today’s Birthdays
    Highlights your friends’ birthdays which occurs on today.

  6. Favicon Alerts
    Alerts you to the number of unread notifications which is overlaid on the Facebook icon.

  7. Facebook ChatBar++
    Gives you a collection of emoticons that you can click in Facebook Chat.

  8. Reload Button on Top Menu Bar
    Adds a “Reload” button on top menu bar of Facebook pages.
    Did you know that clicking browser’s reload button actually re-downloads the page along with images and everything? This script adds a “Reload” button in the top menubar on Facebook, clicking it just resets the URL to the same URL it already was, causing the page to update real fast without re-downloading images.

  9. Replace Text Smiley
    Replace text smileys (eg. “:-)”, “:)”, etc.) with graphical smileys (graphics by Facebook.com)

  10. Remove Top Menu Bar Redundancy
    Remove the redundancy of the Facebook top menu bar. The “Home” button is removed because the Facebook logo RIGHT BESIDE IT is also a link to go home. This also turn “Profile” button into your name.

  11. Remove Sponsored Section
    Remove the “Sponsored” section from the right sidebar.

  12. Remove Connect with Friends
    Remove the “Connect with Friends” section from the right sidebar.

  13. Rounded Profile Tabs
    Makes the tabs in your profile rounded corners.

  14. Simple Uploader
    Always use Simple Uploader for adding Facebook photos. Automatically and immediately load the Simple Uploader for photos everytime you go to the photo upload page. Bypass the Java Upload method that always takes so long to load.

  15. Change Page Title
    Remove “Facebook | ” from the page title.

  16. Add Protocol Links
    Add Protocol Links for Google Talk, Skype, Yahoo, and Windows Live in Profile Info section.

    Awesome extension, I love how you fixed so many things that I was thinking could be improved in Facebook… but I think it would be nice if we had options to choose which features of this extension to use or not. For example, I personally like the Java Uploading feature (Simple Upload takes WAY too much work when you’re uploading hundreds of photos), and while I’d prefer to have all the other features in this extension other than that, my only options at this point are all or none. So being able to select custom features would be a significant improvement. Thanks.

    The JAVA Uploader takes about 8 seconds to load to be honest. But only uploading 5 images at a time is a hassle when on average people probably upload 5-40 at a time. It takes LOADS longer.

    I’ve added a max image width for the pop up image box for images wider than clientWidth/2. If not image wider than clientWidth/2 could pop up over the thumboline they come from and call the mouseout event with a nasty popup – popdown effect.

    I loved, it I was just wondering if you could release a version of it, but without the picture “blow-up” part, or the reload button on the top bar.

    Amazing extension!
    Not so amazing design…
    Gave it 5 stars nonetheless because it’s an excellent idea and it works great!
    However, since I believe in your potential, here are a few suggestions (don’t take them the wrong way – I have no idea how to code extensions, so you have the upper hand on that, but I do know a thing or two about design):

    Suggestions:

    - Pop-up boxes with title in Comic Sans? Please, for the love of Jeebus, no! Worst font in the planet. Segoe UI, Helvetica, Myriad; so many beautiful typefaces to choose from! Stick with something that blends with Facebook and keep effects to a minimum.

    - Pop-up box with large picture? The border doesn’t make any sense (specially the rugged pixels on the round corners), and the title of your extension, along with the close button, looks not only crooked but also useless. A plain, borderless straight cornered white border (about 5px thick) would suffice.

    - Reload button? You did a pretty nice job with the blue buttons across Facebook! Use it there as well and blend it with the rest.

    Other than that, awesome. Recommending this to everyone I know who uses Facebook (which is everyone, pretty much)!

    Super great extension!

    But I have one request. you’ve fixed the top menu bar and the left filter list, but not the right requests bar, why is that? Can you fix it? Because I see reason for not doing it.

    Hi, I was wondering if you can add an options dialog to choose which features of the Enhancer to be enabled and other things (as choosing fonts for the popups ^^) thanks

    Great extension. Really needs an options page to disable some features, as I personally want to turn off image popups and turn the Sponsored section back on. Also, the reload button could be made one of the menu items on the top bar instead of a plain button.

    usually I try to stay away from these kinds of things (code injection) due to them being really buggy especially over time (as the website updates), but this one seems to work really well so far. I like it.

    first thing i went looking to get again once i finally found out how to get back on dev build (after google switched ppl to beta). this was the one extension i kept missing every single day till now.

    i seriously just adore this! i almost didn’t feel line using facebook when i no longer had it (seriously) and i bitched about losing it on facebook, twitter, email….my complaining led people to want it too, and at least one friend got dev build because of me and now loves alwittizer too. it’s weird, i can’t even put my finger on the improvements (except the image enlarging), yet the fb experience is subtly yet hugely better.
