Activate Backspace shortcuts to navigate in history object
This small extension adds back the Backspace-shotcuts for history.back() and history.forward() on linux since it was removed on one of the last builds.

Is working fine! Thank you!
Well done!
OMG Thank you!!! The recent so called ‘bug fix’ to change the way chrome handles (or not) the backspace key was driving me crazy!
I have to admit i have only just installed this extension and it seems to work… but i haven’t given it a full work out… so can’t say that it is definitely free of issues.
Great! Thanks! Latest version (0.46) doesn’t work in GMail though…
Here isn’t always the latest version of the plugin, since the main updateservice runs at Google. After installing the plugin from here just try to update it from to extension page to see if there are newer versions available.
GMail Bug was fixed in 0.48 I guess. Just try to update
0.49 works great for me so far.
Hmm. Im pretty much a noob. How do i enable the extention?
Actually directly after installation there should be the options page, if not go to the Extensions page (chrome://extensions/ in addressbar) and klick on options for the backspace extension. In the options page activate the option “Activate Backspace for navigation in history object”. After that click on save and close the options tab.
At least i recommen to click on “Update extensions now” (or something like that) in the extensions page I mentioned above. Since the extension uploaded here isn’t always the actual version.
Use this shortcut instead: alt (left) + arrows
I can’t install this? An alert box comes up and says that it is only available from the Chrome Web Store, but nothing is available via the Web store at the moment.. What gives?
Finally a new version arrived. Sorry for the long time without an update, was quite busy.
It works but according to the task manager in chrome it uses 8-9Mb of memory. :S
It seems that about 7-8 Megs are the base value for extensions. For me every extensions seems to need that value no matter what it does. Possibly the Process-Overhead.
Works perfect. Thank you for developing this fix
I installed it trough the incognito mode but it works only for the normal mode. I still don’t have backspace as back in the incognito mode.
I guess you need to activate it in extensions dialog (pull down the information of the extension and click on something like “enable in incognito mode”).
noctarius, I went to chrome://extensions/ , checked it and now it works fine. This is a very important feature and now finally I’m able to browse normally. Thank you a lot!
Are you serious! I came here in the hopes of getting _RID_ of this evil, hateful, and asinine ill-conceived attempt at a feature. Seriously the unmodified backspace key should _NEVER_ ever ever ever be used for anything _OTHER_ than right to left cursor movement w/character deletion.
damn all of you!
THANK YOU!! It works beautifully. I could kiss you.
If you think so… Everyone’s own opinion but do you need to be aggressive against all others? Some people found their civility at the gutter.
