More about this extension

This extension is not meant to remove all the ads from a page, but only those ads particularly intrusive, such as: overlaying in-document windows, scrolling banners, and co.

To disable the ads from the current page, simply click on the icon in the top right corner of the browser bar; click again to re-enable them. The current settings will be restored in the next session of the browser.

You can control some settings in the option page of the extension (located in chrome://extensions). For each element, you have 3 options:
- allow: the element will be left untouched;
- block: the element will be replaced by a fake element so you can choose whether to remove it or to unblock it;
- remove: the element will be removed by default.
You can create per-site settings by adding a new profile (see the profile sub-panel).
Since version 0.3, there is also an option to block all sites by default.
Since version 0.2, it’s possible to manually remove an element. To do this, block the current site (click the AntiADS icon), press CTRL  and click on the element you want to remove. The element will become translucent and AntiADS will display a confirmation dialog before removing it.

Change Log:

- Remembers manually removed elements (NOTE: only works with elements that own ID, NAME or CLASS)
- Supports setting a keyboard shortcut to block the page
- Configurable shortcuts

Reviews

  1. i do not the the “icon in the top right corner of the browser bar;”

  2. done75 says:

New extension….but probably the best antiads for chrome in this moment!!!
    thanks

  3. DaVince says:

This doesn’t seem to do much for me – when enabled it removed a block to a news element on a news site, but not the ad above it. I’m also missing any controls or instructions on how to block elements yourself, if possible.

  4. How can I use it?…I do not know..please tell me.

  5. Angel says:

As far as know does not do anything plus can’t tell if on or off anyway
I might use this if was like blocking flash, ad ware and pop ups as well as underline

  6. klan says:

You can control some options in the chrome://extensions/ page. Actually it doesn’t allow to manually remove a specific element, but next version will do it, and it will also have options to block flash, java, silverlight and co.

  7. Angel says:

well it looks really good but my point was yes manual did options from folder, but did not turn on or off
Shame as might have been a better way to remove at least 3 extension by having all in one.

Good work anyway and professional looking

  8. klan says:

New version coming soon.. almost ready.

  9. bo says:

Thanks for the update klan. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming feature (especially the ability to block specific elements).

  10. BloodyT says:

I like it, but howabout making it default to block all ads? or remember site specifically if it should/shouldnt block ads, great tool though, but clicking block ads is almost more work than ignoring the ads all together

  11. klan says:

    Version 0.2 is out!

  12. zz887878zz says:

is it possible to have this extension enabled/activated by default on every tab without clicking it…?

  13. zz887878zz says:

edit : oh sorry, it wasnt enabled by default until i restarted chrome… now it works like a charm

  14. Angel says:

Well i tried it and using google chrome version 4.22 or some thing, but anyway it is the last version you can actually use extensions.
No icon change from on to off, also have tried this on xp pro sp3 and windows 7
    My email address is iamangel@live.co.uk

  15. klan says:

Probably you mean 4.0.22 or something…
For this extension you need the latest development build, i.e. at least 4.0.235. A backport is not planned at the moment.

You can download development builds for windows here:
    http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/chromium-rel-xp/?C=N;O=D
and the link below explains how to enable extensions:
    http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/05/sample-google-chrome-extensions.html

  16. Angel says:

just a thought but is this just meant to work on chromium cause that might be why it does not work as i use google chrome

  17. Frank says:

Works fairly well, an annoyance thought, is that you have to manually disable ads on every site once. I understand it might be like that from a design perspective, but an option to have it on all the time would be preferable for a lot of people, or at least myself. Still the best AdBlocker for Chrome thus far, regardless.

  18. possum says:

This is an awesome extension extension but i have a question. In the future will you be adding an option to block all ads universally without needing to click on the icon?

  19. klan says:

No. Google Chrome and Chromium are exactly the same. Google Chrome is just the name of the stable version of Chromium for Windows.
Moreover the extension is pure javascript, therefore is platform independent.

  20. zz887878zz says:

how about changing the blacklist into whitelist ? so we just need to type websites we dont want to be blocked…

  21. klan says:

I’m implementing this feature in the next release

  22. Angel says:

Ok so it says required name is missing or invalid now also I would not use latest dev build of google as it no long supports extension on bottom tool bar.

so I am sticking to 4.0.22 for the moment but thanks for your efforts

  23. Angel says:

Actually wow this works great now thanks for updating to latest version!

Shame the things reload when refresh page

  24. Mason says:

Wow, this seems to work better than the other Chrome adblockers!

  25. Mike says:

Firstly I’d like to say: great extension! Definitely the best adblocker right now.

Just wondering if it’s possible to use a keyboard shortcut to turn adblocking on/off? And if I can remove the icon from the UI (I prefer a minimal interface)?

  26. zz887878zz says:

amazing extension, really works… now if it is possible to add much more adblocking features that would be great.

btw i wonder why the flash music player from http://nicosound.anyap.info still not blocked with AntiAds…

  27. klan says:

This is an attempt to reply to all of you in a single post. I hope it will solve your dubts.

    1) If you don’t see the “Block all sites by default” option, then probably you are using an outdated version. Block-all-sites feauture was added in version 0.3, but it’s off by defualt. Just go to the extesion options page and turn it on.

    2) Actually there isn’t a keyboard shortcut to activate the block and i’d like to avoid adding it. This because, with so many extensions using keyboard shortcuts, it will probably cause conflicts and strange behaviors.

    3) If some elements don’t get blocked when they should, the reason is that probably they are created by a script in the page after a while. Shame you can’t block scripts in chrome. but I will try a solution in the next version.

  28. Mike says:

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I understand the need for shortcut keys not to conflict with other extensions, as that may be quite difficult to track down. Perhaps a feature under “options” for the user to assign a key combination at their own risk would be able to solve that.

  29. fredde says:

Can i have elements blocked manually saved somehow, they’re all unblocked on every reload, what’s the point really?

  30. zz887878zz says:

well, it seems that the flash player can be blocked with iframes instead… everything is working fine :)

is it possible to add popup blocking feature…? as well as those bothersome javascript popups.

  31. kurnias says:

Promising! Early version AntiADS is the best among any ads blocking extension available for chrome. Keep the good job!

  32. DaVince says:

Bigger description, please. What exactly does it do, and can you give information about its features as well as comparisons with other ad blockers?

  33. klan says:

Just click on “More about this extension” above…

  34. struny says:

Even though it’s not ideal, it’s still the best adblocking extension available, yet! Great work! One small request on my part: would it be possible to change the ADS+red circle icon into one similar to other standard Chrome icons so that it doesn’t stand out so much? Thanks in advance!

  35. blah says:

Update just removed this extension and re-installing fails with
“Content scripts can not be executed on file:// urls.”
    Version: 4.0.252.0 (Ubuntu build 32323)

(btw, thanks this plugin does exactly what i want!)

  36. t3ddy says:

I get this error when trying to install: “Content scripts can not be executed on file:// urls.”

  37. t3ddy says:

ok nothing there were old folders of previous versions, deleting them solved

  38. Annabel says:

When you block a specific ad (using ctrl+click) the element arrives back once the page is reloaded. Would it be possible to get AntiADS to remember elements I have blocked and automatically block them?

    Thanks for the work Klan

  39. csenger41 says:

I have the same question as Annabel before me:
this would be the best anti-ad software on Earth, if it could remember what elements did I remove before and don’t load it in again.
I hope you will can solve this ‘problem’…
Many respect for those, who invented this tool!

  40. RieGo says:

Why don´t you add autoupdate? Would really be usefull.
    But great extension. Thank you!

  41. klan says:

It might be possible only if the element has an ID and is static (not created by a script)… but. since you are using manual removal (CTRL+Click), probably these requirements are not met in your case.

  42. csenger41 says:

OK, but will is it possible to solve this issue? I mean, should I check this page, waiting for an update, that fixed the permanent manual removal?

  43. LukynZ says:

It looks like first working adblock at all. But it doesn’t block blacklisted / all sites by default. I have to click at the icon to block it and after reload again etc. Something is wrong here.

  44. bat says:

Is there to change the shortcut CTR-click to another one, this shortcut is very convient to open link in another tab…

  45. Zach says:

I concur with bat, this Ctrl + Click needs to be changed, because those of us with laptops can’t open a link in a new tab without right-clicking. Other than that though, perfect extension, love it. Would like to see the ability to block ads that it misses.

  46. Nice ad blocker if you can in the next version i want to see the extension save the blockec elements because i can’t hide over and over the space which the ad leaves

  47. GforGanja says:

its great to see extensions coming out. i just discovered them today. the only reason for me to stick with Firefox is because of extensions. if i get my regular extensions for Chrome i’ll be using it all the time.
i hope it works. even though its at a very early stage.

  48. BloodyT says:

Change the ctrl+click hotkey… thats the dealbreaker for me… as i often open in new tab

  49. klan says:

ok, given all these requests, i have released a new version (0.4) with configurable shortcuts, so you can change Ctrl+Click to another combination. It also supports setting a shortcut to activate the page block and can remember the elements you manually remove.

  50. Lawrence Brubacker says:

Amazing Klan! We now have configurable shortcuts. You have rendered other chrome ad blocking extensions obsolete! I’m on Antiads and loving it!
